Are the certificates authentic?

Yes, all of the certificates we sell are authentic stock and bond certificates unless otherwise mentioned in the description. At one point in time, this certificate represented a share of of the company, or a bond receipt. These certificates have been removed from circulation and digitalized, as seen by cancellation holes, stamps and writing on the certificate. We offer these certificates as a collectable item, not a security.

This is an original stock certificate from American Caramel Company, dated 1900-1930s, printed in red and gray. Features a vignette of a large eagle in flight with wings spread against a light background.

The certificate shows age with some yellowing and fold lines edge that gives it authentic character from over a century of existence. No cancellation markings are visible, indicating this certificate was never formally redeemed or retired.

In 1900, Philadelphia was the candy capital of America, and American Caramel Company stood among the giants of confectionery manufacturing. The company was founded during the great candy boom of the 1890s, when new sugar refining techniques and improved transportation networks made mass-produced sweets accessible to working-class families for the first time. American Caramel became famous for producing baseball cards as promotional inserts in their candy packages, creating what collectors today recognize as some of the earliest sports trading cards in American history. The company's Honus Wagner card, produced around this same period, would become one of the most valuable collectibles ever created. The firm eventually merged with other confectionery companies as the industry consolidated in the early 20th century, but its legacy in both candy manufacturing and sports memorabilia endures.

This certificate captures a moment in American consumer culture, representing an industry that transformed simple sugar into a national obsession. The brown ink and soaring eagle imagery reflect the confident industrial spirit of 1900, when companies like American Caramel were building brands that would define childhood for generations. Stock certificates from turn-of-the-century consumer goods companies remain popular with collectors who appreciate both the artistry of financial printing and the nostalgic appeal of America's emerging mass market. Offered as a collectible.

Materials and care

Here are some quick tips to preserve your certificate for decades to come.

Paper quality: Stock certificates were printed on a variety of certificate paper dating back to the mid 1800s. Most of these vintage collectable certificates have signs of used & wear , cancellation holes, pencil / pen writing, stamps, staples, adhesives, slight rips, missing coupons and other features.

Handling: Always handle the certificate with clean, dry hands or use cotton gloves to avoid transferring oils and dirt from your skin onto the paper.

Storage: Store the certificate in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which can cause fading. Use acid-free folders or archival-quality plastic sleeves to protect it from moisture, dust, and physical damage.

Framing: If displaying the certificate, use a frame with UV-protective glass to prevent light damage. Ensure the certificate is mounted using acid-free materials to avoid any chemical reactions that could degrade the paper over time.

Avoid Exposure: Keep the certificate away from direct sun, extreme temperatures and humidity, which can cause the paper to warp or deteriorate. Avoid exposing it to pollutants, such as smoke or chemicals, which can cause discoloration.
