Are the certificates authentic?

Yes, all of the certificates we sell are authentic stock and bond certificates unless otherwise mentioned in the description. At one point in time, this certificate represented a share of of the company, or a bond receipt. These certificates have been removed from circulation and digitalized, as seen by cancellation holes, stamps and writing on the certificate. We offer these certificates as a collectable item, not a security.

This original stock certificate from the American Sugar Refining Company dated 1950s - 1960s available in orange, blue, or green color variations. Each certificate was issued and bears cancellation holes, indicating it has been retired from financial use. You will receive a certificate similar to the one shown in photos. Offered as a collectable.

At the top, a detailed vignette shows a sugar farm scene featuring a cow and cultivated fields—a fitting tribute to the company’s agricultural roots and industrial scale.

The American Sugar Refining Company was founded in 1891 through the consolidation of several sugar refineries, becoming one of the largest players in the U.S. sugar industry. Under the leadership of Henry O. Havemeyer, the company quickly rose to dominate the market, controlling over 90% of domestic sugar refining by the turn of the 20th century. They were one of the original Dow Jones Industrial Average.

Its immense power led to it being dubbed the “Sugar Trust,” and it became a central figure in early antitrust litigation, including the landmark 1911 Supreme Court case United States v. American Sugar Refining Co.

By the 1960s, American Sugar Refining had become a fixture in both industrial and consumer markets, refining and distributing sugar under various well-known labels. It was around this time that the company was reorganized and eventually rebranded, setting the stage for its next incarnation as part of the conglomerate that would become known as Domino Sugar.

Today, American Sugar Refining lives on through ASR Group, a global sugar refining powerhouse that owns brands like Domino, C&H, and Florida Crystals.

Materials and care

Here are some quick tips to preserve your certificate for decades to come.

Paper quality: Stock certificates were printed on a variety of certificate paper dating back to the mid 1800s. Most of these vintage collectable certificates have signs of used & wear , cancellation holes, pencil / pen writing, stamps, staples, adhesives, slight rips, missing coupons and other features.

Handling: Always handle the certificate with clean, dry hands or use cotton gloves to avoid transferring oils and dirt from your skin onto the paper.

Storage: Store the certificate in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which can cause fading. Use acid-free folders or archival-quality plastic sleeves to protect it from moisture, dust, and physical damage.

Framing: If displaying the certificate, use a frame with UV-protective glass to prevent light damage. Ensure the certificate is mounted using acid-free materials to avoid any chemical reactions that could degrade the paper over time.

Avoid Exposure: Keep the certificate away from direct sun, extreme temperatures and humidity, which can cause the paper to warp or deteriorate. Avoid exposing it to pollutants, such as smoke or chemicals, which can cause discoloration.
