This is an original stock certificate from Americana Furniture, Inc., dated 1952, printed in blue. A large American bald eagle with wings spread wide dominates the top center.
Printed by the Northwestern Blank Note Company of Chicago, a lesser-known but capable Midwest engraving house that served regional corporate clients throughout the mid-century period.
The certificate is in Very Good condition. Cancellation shows a red rubber stamp reading "AMENDMENT FILED" with additional text noting radio and television operations, overlaid across the face. Offered as a collectible.
North Little Rock, Arkansas in 1959 was a working-class industrial counterpart to the state capital across the Arkansas River, home to rail yards, light manufacturing, and small consumer goods firms chasing the postwar suburban market. Americana Furniture, Inc. was incorporated there under Arkansas law, manufacturing furniture for a mid-century American consumer base that was filling new ranch-style homes from coast to coast.
What makes this certificate historically interesting is precisely what the cancellation stamps record: the company filed an amendment to its certificate of incorporation referencing radio and television operations, suggesting a pivot into home electronics at the moment when television ownership was transforming American domestic life.
In 1959, more than 85 percent of American homes had a television set, and furniture companies that had built living room cabinets were suddenly logical entrants into the entertainment furniture and electronics market.
Mid-century Arkansas corporate certificates are seldom seen in the scripophily market, and pieces that carry documentary evidence of a specific corporate event, here an amendment filing with Arkansas state authorities, have built-in research value that plain cancelled examples lack. Framing: If displaying the certificate, use a frame with UV-protective glass to prevent light damage. Ensure the certificate is mounted using acid-free materials to avoid any chemical reactions that could degrade the paper over time.
Avoid Exposure: Keep the certificate away from direct sun, extreme temperatures and humidity, which can cause the paper to warp or deteriorate. Avoid exposing it to pollutants, such as smoke or chemicals, which can cause discoloration.
