This is a stock certificate from the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway Company, issued in 1915. Printed in orange and black, it features a detailed vignette of a steam locomotive labeled "America." The certificate is hand-signed, includes cancellation holes, and was printed by the American Bank Note Company.
The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway, commonly known as the "Rock Island Line," was a significant American railroad that played a crucial role in the development of the Midwest. Established in 1852, it became the first railroad to bridge the Mississippi River in 1856, connecting Chicago to the western United States. By the early 20th century, the railroad had expanded its network across multiple states, including Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas. However, due to financial difficulties, the company entered receivership in 1915.
