Are the certificates authentic?
Are the certificates authentic?
Yes, all of the certificates we sell are authentic stock and bond certificates unless otherwise mentioned in the description. At one point in time, this certificate represented a share of of the company, or a bond receipt. These certificates have been removed from circulation and digitalized, as seen by cancellation holes, stamps and writing on the certificate. We offer these certificates as a collectable item, not a security.
This is a blue stock certificate issued by the Jerome Verde Development Company from the 1920s. The certificate includes cancellation holes, a blue marker check across the front, a cancellation stamp, and the signature of the company’s Vice President. You will receive a certificate similar to the one shown in the product photo. Offered as a collectible.
The Jerome Verde Development Company was one of several enterprises formed to capitalize on mining and land development opportunities in Arizona during the early 20th century. Named after Jerome, Arizona—a once-thriving copper mining town located on the side of Mingus Mountain—the company was tied to the speculative investment activity that surrounded the region’s mineral resources.
Jerome became prominent in the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its rich copper deposits, which were developed by companies such as the United Verde Copper Company. As mining boomed, so did auxiliary businesses like the Jerome Verde Development Company, which operated in land acquisition, prospecting, and speculative resource development.
By the 1930s, the decline in ore yields and falling copper prices led to economic contraction in the region. Many such development companies dissolved or became dormant.
