Are the certificates authentic?
Yes, all of the certificates we sell are authentic stock and bond certificates unless otherwise mentioned in the description. At one point in time, this certificate represented a share of of the company, or a bond receipt. These certificates have been removed from circulation and digitalized, as seen by cancellation holes, stamps and writing on the certificate. We offer these certificates as a collectable item, not a security.
This crisp, red Kmart Corporation stock certificate from 2002 features a vignette of three company executives set against a cityscape, symbolizing the company’s retail presence.
Includes the printed signatures of the Charles C. Conaway, the Chairman of the Board and CEO at the time.
Kmart Corporation was originally founded as the S.S. Kresge Company by Sebastian S. Kresge in 1899. It became a publicly traded company in 1918, listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The first Kmart store opened in 1962, marking the company’s expansion into discount retailing. In 2003, Kmart emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy and began trading on the NASDAQ under the symbol KMRT. In 2004, Kmart merged with Sears to form Sears Holdings Corporation, but today, only a few Kmart stores remain operational due to significant downsizing and restructuring efforts.
In its heyday, there were more than 2,000 Kmarts in the U.S.
This certificate is ideal for collectors interested in retail history or financial memorabilia, especially those with a connection to Kmart’s legacy as a major discount retailer prior to its merger with Sears.
