This listing includes 2 color variants of stock certificates from the Pepsi-Cola United Bottlers, Inc., dated from the 1950s. Available in orange and green, each featuring an allegorical female figure seated on classical drapery, holding a globe in her left hand while reaching toward a Pepsi-Cola bottle displayed in a circular medallion.
These certificates were issued and shows cancellation through multiple rows of perforations, indicating it was redeemed. The document has minor edge wear of a mid-20th century corporate certificate, with light creasing characteristic of its age.
In 1949, Alfred Steele made one of the boldest career moves in beverage history, he left his executive position at Coca-Cola to become president of struggling Pepsi-Cola. Steele transformed Pepsi from a distant second into Coca-Cola's fierce rival through revolutionary marketing that positioned Pepsi as the drink of a younger, more modern America. His "Pepsi Generation" campaigns and aggressive franchise expansion created the bottling network that Pepsi-Cola United Bottlers represented. Under Steele's leadership, Pepsi's sales tripled, and the company went from near-bankruptcy to genuine competition with the Atlanta giant. Steele married actress Joan Crawford in 1955, and together they became the glamorous face of Pepsi's upscale repositioning. The certificate bears his signature as president, capturing the peak years of his transformation of American cola wars.
