This is a red revenue bond certificate from the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA), issued in 1981. It features a printed image of an electric power plant, with staple marks and a tear along one edge.
Founded in 1941, PREPA was created as a government-run utility to bring power generation and distribution to all parts of Puerto Rico. By 1981, the authority had achieved full island-wide electrification and was issuing revenue bonds like this one to finance infrastructure upgrades and maintain energy reliability across the grid. At its peak, PREPA was among the largest public power utilities in the U.S., operating major oil- and gas-fired plants and hydroelectric stations.

Paper quality: Stock certificates were printed on a variety of certificate paper dating back to the mid 1800s. Most of these vintage collectable certificates have signs of used & wear , cancellation holes, pencil / pen writing, stamps, staples, adhesives, slight rips, missing coupons and other features.

Framing: If displaying the certificate, use a frame with UV-protective glass to prevent light damage. Ensure the certificate is mounted using acid-free materials to avoid any chemical reactions that could degrade the paper over time.
Avoid Exposure: Keep the certificate away from direct sun, extreme temperatures and humidity, which can cause the paper to warp or deteriorate. Avoid exposing it to pollutants, such as smoke or chemicals, which can cause discoloration.
