This is an original stock certificate from Second New Haven Bank, dated 1970s, printed in green. The vignette depicts the three historic churches of the New Haven Green arranged across a winter streetscape: a Gothic stone tower church at left, the tall-steepled colonial Center Church at center, and a smaller cupola church at right, all set against bare deciduous trees. Printed by the American Bank Note Company.
The certificate shows two large blue rubber stamp cancellations reading "Cancelled". Offered as a collectible. You will receive a similar certificate to the one shown.
In 1972, New Haven's banking sector was deep into a consolidation wave that had been reshaping southern Connecticut's financial landscape since the late 1950s. Second New Haven Bank was a Connecticut-chartered commercial bank rooted in one of New England's oldest cities, a city whose financial institutions traced their lineage to the early republic.
The three churches of the New Haven Green depicted in the vignette are among the most recognized landmarks in Connecticut, and their presence on a bank certificate issued in that city carries real local weight. The American Bank Note Company, which engraved and printed this certificate, was the dominant security printer in the United States for much of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and its work appears on some of the most collectible scripophily pieces in existence.
Connecticut banking paper from this transitional era of regional consolidation draws steady collector interest, and the White, Weld provenance adds an institutional Wall Street dimension that elevates this beyond a standard community bank certificate.

Paper quality: Stock certificates were printed on a variety of certificate paper dating back to the mid 1800s. Most of these vintage collectable certificates have signs of used & wear , cancellation holes, pencil / pen writing, stamps, staples, adhesives, slight rips, missing coupons and other features.
Handling: Always handle the certificate with clean, dry hands or use cotton gloves to avoid transferring oils and dirt from your skin onto the paper.
Storage: Store the certificate in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which can cause fading. Use acid-free folders or archival-quality plastic sleeves to protect it from moisture, dust, and physical damage.
Framing: If displaying the certificate, use a frame with UV-protective glass to prevent light damage. Ensure the certificate is mounted using acid-free materials to avoid any chemical reactions that could degrade the paper over time.
Avoid Exposure: Keep the certificate away from direct sun, extreme temperatures and humidity, which can cause the paper to warp or deteriorate. Avoid exposing it to pollutants, such as smoke or chemicals, which can cause discoloration.
