Are the certificates authentic?

Yes, all of the certificates we sell are authentic stock and bond certificates unless otherwise mentioned in the description. At one point in time, this certificate represented a share of of the company, or a bond receipt. These certificates have been removed from circulation and digitalized, as seen by cancellation holes, stamps and writing on the certificate. We offer these certificates as a collectable item, not a security.

This is an original stock certificate from Unilever N.V., dated from the 1980s, printed in red, blur and orange. Features a vignette of two allegorical female figures seated on either side of a globe displaying a world map, representing commerce and industry while symbolizing the company's global reach.

Shows minor age wear and handling marks with some fold lines, giving the piece authentic character from its decades of existence. Cancellation markings are visible, indicating this certificate was redeemed. The certificate was issued, representing ownership in one of the world's largest consumer goods companies.

In 1929, Dutch margarine producer Margarine Unie merged with British soap maker Lever Brothers to create Unilever, forming what would become one of the world's most recognizable multinational corporations. The merger was orchestrated by William Lever, 1st Viscount Leverhulme, who had built Lever Brothers from a small grocery business into a global empire through aggressive marketing and vertical integration of his supply chain. Lever revolutionized consumer marketing by creating branded products like Sunlight soap, transforming commodities into household names through advertising campaigns that reached across continents. By the 1980s, when this certificate was issued, Unilever had grown into a behemoth controlling hundreds of brands including Dove, Lipton, Ben & Jerry's, and Knorr, operating in over 190 countries. The company's dual Anglo-Dutch structure, reflected in this N.V. (Nederlandse Vennootschap) certificate, allowed it to navigate complex international markets while maintaining its European heritage.

Consumer goods certificates from major multinational corporations capture a moment in global capitalism, when household brands were expanding their reach into every corner of daily life. This certificate represents ownership in a company that quite literally touched millions of lives through products found in kitchens and bathrooms worldwide, making it both a financial document and a artifact of 20th-century consumer culture. Offered as a collectible.

Materials and care

Here are some quick tips to preserve your certificate for decades to come.

Paper quality: Stock certificates were printed on a variety of certificate paper dating back to the mid 1800s. Most of these vintage collectable certificates have signs of used & wear , cancellation holes, pencil / pen writing, stamps, staples, adhesives, slight rips, missing coupons and other features.

Handling: Always handle the certificate with clean, dry hands or use cotton gloves to avoid transferring oils and dirt from your skin onto the paper.

Storage: Store the certificate in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which can cause fading. Use acid-free folders or archival-quality plastic sleeves to protect it from moisture, dust, and physical damage.

Framing: If displaying the certificate, use a frame with UV-protective glass to prevent light damage. Ensure the certificate is mounted using acid-free materials to avoid any chemical reactions that could degrade the paper over time.

Avoid Exposure: Keep the certificate away from direct sun, extreme temperatures and humidity, which can cause the paper to warp or deteriorate. Avoid exposing it to pollutants, such as smoke or chemicals, which can cause discoloration.
