This is a set of nine original circulated Bolivar Fuerte banknotes issued by the Banco Central de Venezuela, dated 2015-2018. The set includes denominations from 50 to 20,000 bolivars, each printed in multicolor. The front of each note features a portrait of a Venezuelan historical figure: Simon Bolivar appears on the 100 and 20,000 bolivar notes in military dress, while the remaining denominations show statesmen, cultural figures, and representatives of Venezuela's indigenous and Afro-Venezuelan heritage.

The reverses celebrate Venezuelan wildlife, including a spectacled bear, armadillo, river turtles, tropical birds, and river dolphins, all set against lush natural backdrops. The notes were printed by the Banco Central de Venezuela.

Venezuela's Bolivar Fuerte was introduced in 2008 as part of a currency redenomination that replaced the old bolivar at a rate of 1,000 to one, a move designed to manage the psychological effects of mounting inflation. By 2015, the country was deep in an economic crisis driven by the collapse of global oil prices, which devastated a government budget that relied on petroleum for the vast majority of its revenue. Under President Nicolas Maduro, who had assumed office following the death of Hugo Chavez in 2013, the bolivar entered a period of hyperinflation that would eventually render even the 20,000 bolivar note nearly worthless within months of its issue. The Bolivar Fuerte series itself was retired in 2018 when the government redenominated the currency again, issuing the Bolivar Soberano at 100,000 Fuerte to one, making the notes in this set literal artifacts of one of the most dramatic currency collapses in modern Latin American history. Simon Bolivar, whose portrait anchors the 100 and 20,000 bolivar notes, was the Venezuelan-born general who led independence movements across present-day Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia in the early 19th century, and his image has appeared on Venezuelan currency for generations as a symbol of national identity.
