This is an original unissued stock certificate from The American Bank and Trust Company of New Haven, Connecticut, printed in black. Features a vignette of an American eagle with spread wings, facing right, perched above the company name with detailed feather work typical of professional engraving.
This certificate was later cancelled with two punch holes through the face. The piece retains clean appearance with normal aging that adds historical character to this banking artifact.
The American Bank and Trust Company served New Haven's growing commercial district during the early twentieth century, when Connecticut's Elm City was transforming from a manufacturing hub into a modern financial center anchored by Yale University.
Founded to serve both the university community and the city's expanding industrial base, the bank provided commercial lending and personal banking services during New Haven's prosperous pre-Depression years.
