This is an original check from Bank of Italy, dated 1924. The check is printed in black ink with a simple printed border featuring decorative font for the bank name, with elegant serif lettering characteristic of 1920s banking documents.

In 1924, San Francisco's Bank of Italy was already well on its way to becoming the financial empire that would eventually transform into Bank of America. Founded in 1904 by Amadeo Pietro Giannini, the Bank of Italy revolutionized American banking by serving working-class immigrants and small business owners whom traditional banks had largely ignored. Giannini's populist approach included opening branch offices throughout California and offering loans to ordinary citizens - radical concepts at the time that established him as one of the most innovative bankers in American history. The check was issued to J. O. Rianda, reflecting the bank's continued service to the Italian-American community that formed its original customer base. By 1924, Giannini had already survived the 1906 San Francisco earthquake by famously loading gold and records onto horse-drawn wagons and conducting business from a plank across two barrels on the waterfront, demonstrating the entrepreneurial spirit that would make his institution the largest bank in the world by the 1940s.
