Are the certificates authentic?
Are the certificates authentic?
Yes, all of the certificates we sell are authentic stock and bond certificates unless otherwise mentioned in the description. At one point in time, this certificate represented a share of of the company, or a bond receipt. These certificates have been removed from circulation and digitalized, as seen by cancellation holes, stamps and writing on the certificate. We offer these certificates as a collectable item, not a security.
This is a $10,000 bond certificate issued by the Consolidated Edison Company of New York in the 1970s. The certificate features a blue color scheme, with cancellation holes present. A vignette shows a seated woman with a power plant in the background, reflecting the company’s role in energy production and public utility service. Offered as a collectible.
Consolidated Edison, commonly known as ConEd, was formed in 1936 through the merger of several New York utility providers, including the New York Edison Company and the Bronx Gas and Electric Company. Its origins trace back to the Edison Electric Illuminating Company, founded by Thomas Edison in 1882, which established the first central power station in Manhattan.
By the 1970s, when this bond was issued, ConEd was a major investor-owned utility supplying electricity, gas, and steam to customers across the New York metropolitan area. The decade brought increased scrutiny on utility providers, new energy demands, and evolving environmental standards, all of which shaped ConEd’s operating strategy.
ConEd remains a core part of New York’s energy infrastructure and continues to trade publicly under the ticker symbol ED on the New York Stock Exchange.
