In 1911, after the breakup of Standard Oil Trust (John D. Rockefeller's empire), the Standard Oil Company of New York (Socony) was created. Socony merged with Vacuum Oil Company in 1931, forming Socony-Vacuum Corporation. They adopted the Pegasus logo shortly after the 1931 merger.
In 1966, it was renamed Mobil Oil Corporation, and in 1998, merged with Exxon to form ExxonMobil, bring back together the two largest descendants of Standard Oil.
