Are the certificates authentic?
Are the certificates authentic?
Yes, all of the certificates we sell are authentic stock and bond certificates unless otherwise mentioned in the description. At one point in time, this certificate represented a share of of the company, or a bond receipt. These certificates have been removed from circulation and digitalized, as seen by cancellation holes, stamps and writing on the certificate. We offer these certificates as a collectable item, not a security.
These issued & cancelled "The Studebaker Corporation" stock certificates are from the 1940/1950s have a scene of a blacksmith's house with a horse and child outside. Available in green or purple. Punch holes present.
The Studebaker Corporation started in 1852 in South Bend, Indiana, when brothers Henry and Clement Studebaker used their blacksmithing skills to launch a wagon-making business. With just a $68 investment, they quickly found success, landing a major contract with the U.S. government in 1857 to supply wagons for federal troops.
Their reputation grew during the Civil War, as they became a key supplier for the Union Army, fueling rapid expansion. By 1868, the company was officially incorporated as the Studebaker Brothers Manufacturing Company, with Clement as president, John Mohler as treasurer, and their brother Peter as secretary.
In 1902, they began making electric cars—an innovative move at the time—catering to city drivers looking for a clean and easy-to-use vehicle. Just two years later, they teamed up with Garford to produce gasoline-powered cars, blending Studebaker-built bodies with Garford’s chassis. This seamless transition from wagons to automobiles set Studebaker apart from other wagon makers. Their legacy as pioneers in American car history is undeniable, from their early electric vehicles to their lasting influence on how cars are built and marketed today.
In an attempt to stabilize its finances, Studebaker merged with Packard in 1954, forming the Studebaker-Packard Corporation.
The South Bend plant closed in 1963, and the company's last cars were produced in Hamilton, Ontario, until March 1966. The closure was partly due to the inability to compete with the Big Three automakers and the failure to adapt to changing market conditions. The company officially ceased to exist as an automobile manufacturer in 1967.

Here are some quick tips to preserve your certificate for decades to come.
Paper quality: Stock certificates were printed on a variety of certificate paper dating back to the mid 1800s. Most of these vintage collectable certificates have signs of used & wear , cancellation holes, pencil / pen writing, stamps, staples, adhesives, slight rips, missing coupons and other features.
Handling: Always handle the certificate with clean, dry hands or use cotton gloves to avoid transferring oils and dirt from your skin onto the paper.
Storage: Store the certificate in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which can cause fading. Use acid-free folders or archival-quality plastic sleeves to protect it from moisture, dust, and physical damage.
Framing: If displaying the certificate, use a frame with UV-protective glass to prevent light damage. Ensure the certificate is mounted using acid-free materials to avoid any chemical reactions that could degrade the paper over time.
Avoid Exposure: Keep the certificate away from direct sun, extreme temperatures and humidity, which can cause the paper to warp or deteriorate. Avoid exposing it to pollutants, such as smoke or chemicals, which can cause discoloration.
