Are the certificates authentic?

Yes, all of the certificates we sell are authentic stock and bond certificates unless otherwise mentioned in the description. At one point in time, this certificate represented a share of of the company, or a bond receipt. These certificates have been removed from circulation and digitalized, as seen by cancellation holes, stamps and writing on the certificate. We offer these certificates as a collectable item, not a security.

This is an original issued and canceled stock certificate from Vornado, Inc. from the 1970s, printed in a distinct blue and off-white. The vignette features an allegorical female figure with a flowing garment, reaching toward a factory / industrial complex. Offered as a collectible.

The origins of Vornado, Inc. can be traced back to the "Two Guys" discount store chain, founded in 1947 by brothers Sidney and Herbert Hubschman in Harrison, New Jersey. In 1959, Two Guys acquired the O. A. Sutton Corporation, a manufacturer of electric fans under the "Vornado" brand, and the company was subsequently renamed Vornado Inc.. Initially, Vornado Inc. operated as a diversified retailer, selling appliances and housewares, and pioneering one-stop shopping centers.

By 1964, Vornado Inc. operated over 200 stores. The company continued its retail operations through the 1960s and into the 1970s, expanding its reach across various retail formats, including supermarkets through the acquisition of Food Giant Markets, Inc. in 1967. At this time, the company maintained a significant fleet of trailers and trucks, along with in-house advertising, service, and construction departments, showcasing its integrated retail model.

In the 1970s, Vornado began divesting its retail operations, selling off numerous "Two Guys" locations. In 1979, the company was taken over by real estate investor Steven Roth's Interstate Properties firm. Roth shifted the company's focus from retail to real estate, seeing the value in the suburban land on which many "Two Guys" stores were built. This strategic shift led to the closure of the remaining "Two Guys" stores and the transformation of Vornado Inc. into a real estate development company, which eventually converted into Vornado Realty Trust, a real estate investment trust (REIT), in 1993.

Materials and care

Here are some quick tips to preserve your certificate for decades to come.

Paper quality: Stock certificates were printed on a variety of certificate paper dating back to the mid 1800s. Most of these vintage collectable certificates have signs of used & wear , cancellation holes, pencil / pen writing, stamps, staples, adhesives, slight rips, missing coupons and other features.

Handling: Always handle the certificate with clean, dry hands or use cotton gloves to avoid transferring oils and dirt from your skin onto the paper.

Storage: Store the certificate in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which can cause fading. Use acid-free folders or archival-quality plastic sleeves to protect it from moisture, dust, and physical damage.

Framing: If displaying the certificate, use a frame with UV-protective glass to prevent light damage. Ensure the certificate is mounted using acid-free materials to avoid any chemical reactions that could degrade the paper over time.

Avoid Exposure: Keep the certificate away from direct sun, extreme temperatures and humidity, which can cause the paper to warp or deteriorate. Avoid exposing it to pollutants, such as smoke or chemicals, which can cause discoloration.
